my thesis is an exploration of visual language and transformation through the lens of the “magical girl” archetype, a normal person who is given the ability to transform into a different, more confident version of herself through the use of supernatural abilities. i translate the magical girl characteristics into design choices that i apply to generative exercises. at the core of the project, i am valorizing change and transformation to create a liberating practice that can generate images and letterforms that emerge from the ordinary but become something extraordinary. the results teeter between legible and illegible, and invite people to look again, to enjoy surprise and sparkle.
